Luke 1:39, 40 “Without delay Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth.”
As soon as Mary had heard from the Angel Gabriel that she had been chosen to bear the honourable burden of being called the Mother of God, she gathered her things and made her way from Nazareth to a town in the “hill country” (that most agree to be South West of Jerusalem, possibly Hebron). The distance between Nazareth and Hebron was around 120-160km, Mary probably travelled on foot or possibly within a travelling caravan for 3-5 days to reach her relative.
We can only speculate on many details of this brief summary of the three months these women spent together. How well the women knew each other, what their interactions might have been, the content of their conversations and their dreams and expectations of the coming years.
What we do have, is a fascinating and intriguing picture of two women separated by geographical distance, chronological age and life experience coming together to share a season of time together based around their faith in God and the awesome plans & purpose that He had invited them into.
Hope Women is about harnessing that picture of women. Our intention is to develop a family of women of every generation, from every season of life, that will grow together, encouraging one another to “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful …. considering how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as we see the Day drawing near” Hebrews 10:23-25
